Our Background History

 

 

 

The Meat Man was formed in 2009 by father and son Phil and Tom Brown, Phil is a trained Master Butcher.


As the new venture was going from strength to strength Phil and Tom decided to refurbish the Willow Street premises, from that commitment to sell “Quality Meat at the Right Price” the business has now grown to sales in excess of 1.5 million per year and growing, they now employ a work force of 15 people from the local community, and with their help and input they have achieved the following accreditations, STS Approval (which means they can serve Hospitals and Schools as they meet the highest standard required) HACCP approved premises (which means they have full documented procedure for traceability throughout the food chain) UK Cutting Plant EC approval number 079 (which means they meet all the hygiene, traceability of products, country of origin of meat and cleaning schedules, and testing of meats).


These goals have been reached with the help of Shropshire County Council Food Safety officer Diane Roberts and Annette Breese from Shropshire Trading Standards who both gave us guidance and advise to achieve this end and who we owe a debt of gratitude


The question we get asked mostly says Tom is where is the meat from and is it local, well let me explain, we have 4 butchers on site from 4.30am every morning starting to cut for our catering side of the business, and then onto the retail side when other staff start arriving from 6am to start packing. We purchase from over 30 suppliers from all over the UK and as close to home as Stanley Jones of Rhoss, ABP Shrewsbury, ABP Ellsmere, The Vale of Clwyd fresh lamb, Free Rang Eggs from Shrewsbury, British Bacon. Tican, Swifts, Attwell Farm, ect, ect. All Beef is aged for 21/28 days before cutting, we only sell Fresh Beef, Lamb, Pork and Chicken, our Sausages are made by Lawrence of Leamore a family business with over 100 years of experience in this field, we can cut any meat to your requirements “Just Ask”
